Water Rescue Task Force Assist with Vehicle Removal
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Department Chief Mike Cameron
November 26, 2017

Early Sunday morning Aberdeen Fire/Rescue, Moore County EMS, Aberdeen Police Department and Moore County Public Safety were dispatched to a vehicle in a pond in the 1000 block of North Sandhills Boulevard. The occupant of the vehicle was able to remove himself from the vehicle and was transported to the hospital for treatment and was later arrested for DWI.
The Moore County Water Rescue Task Force was requested to assist Aberdeen units with removing the vehicle from the pond. Air temperature was in the mid 20's and it was decided that dry suits should be used due to the low temperature. Dry suits provide thermal insulation for rescue and recovery workers when they are working in cold or contaminated water. Dry suits are designed to keep water out of the suit allowing the rescue workers to maintain a safe body temperature and not fall victim to cold water exposure.
Task Force members assisted the wrecker driver with attaching the wrecker cable to the car and removing the car from the pond.
The Moore County Water Rescue Task Force trailer and equipment is house at Cypress Pointe Station 2. Members of the task force are from several different county departments including Cypress Pointe.
